ABOUT AIR FORCE MEMORIAL

ABOUT AIR FORCE MEMORIALThe Air Force Memorial Foundation was incorporated in January 1992 to pursue the development of a Memorial that would honor the men and women of the United States Air Force and its heritage organizations. After almost 15 years of project development the Memorial was dedicated and accepted on behalf of the American people by President George W. Bush on October 14, 2006.

The United States Air Force Memorial is envisioned as a national place of reverence, remembrance and celebration where the Air Force “family” and all Americans can pause to remember, honor and gather to celebrate the people and the achievements of America’s Airmen. It is located on an elevated promontory, adjacent to the southern boundary of Arlington National Cemetery, less than a ˝ mile west of the Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia.

In August 1992, the Air Force Memorial Foundation was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service, making it a tax-exempt, charitable, historical, and educational organization. The Foundation which is now affiliated with the Air Force Association continues to work with the USAF to help support and maintain the Memorial. This project to build the national Air Force Memorial has been funded almost entirely by private contributions. Additional funds required to help support the upkeep of the Memorial site are still being collected. Individuals who wish to contribute toward keeping the Memorial a world-class facility and to strengthen the vision of being a universally recognized symbol of the Air Force can do so by going to the following, please copy and paste the following web address.
